The quality policy of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) aims at providing high-level services in the following areas: (a) education and teaching, (b) scientific-research work, (c) teaching staff, (d) the quality of support services for postgraduate students, and (e) society. The Department is committed to implementing a quality policy that supports knowledge (scientific, technological, research, and professional), with the main objective of scientifically educating postgraduate students, in accordance with the European and National Qualifications Framework for Higher Education. In this spirit, the Department’s quality policy ensures the academic identity and orientation of the Postgraduate Program (PGP), so that procedures are applied demonstrating the appropriateness of its structure and organization, the adequacy of the teaching staff’s qualifications, the quality of the academic unit’s support services, and its staffing with suitable administrative personnel. The academic unit is also committed to conducting an annual internal evaluation of the new PGP in collaboration with the Internal Evaluation Group (OMEA) and the Institution’s Quality Assurance Unit (MODIP), to promote the purpose and scope of the PGP, to implement its strategic goals, to define the means and ways of achieving them, and to continually aim for its improvement. This policy is published and applied by all interested parties. More specifically, it ensures:
    • the appropriateness of the structure and organization of the PGP,
    • the continuous review and revision of the PGP,
    • the creation of laboratories for the development of research aimed at linking teaching with research,
    • the pursuit of learning outcomes and qualifications in accordance with the European and National Qualifications Framework for Higher Education,
    • close cooperation with the postgraduate students’ association,
    • close scientific collaboration with other university departments in Greece and abroad,
    • close cooperation with the broader social environment and institutions based in the region of Western Macedonia.
It also ensures the quality of teaching and the suitability of teaching staff through the following actions:
    • All legal procedures are followed for the selection and promotion of faculty or special teaching staff, ensuring meritocracy and transparency in all processes.
    • There is an official evaluation procedure of the teaching work (of all study programs) and the teaching staff by the Quality Assurance Unit of the University of Western Macedonia (MODIP). Provisions are made for the mobility of the teaching staff and full support for collaborations between institutions in Greece and abroad, co-organization of events and conferences, hosting and welcoming scientists of recognized status in the university setting.
    • Full support is provided to teaching staff for participation in research programs conducted both in Greece and at the European level.
We ensure the quality education of postgraduate students, supporting learning and all academic activities through a network of infrastructures and services, as far as feasible:
  • Administrative support.
  • Library and Reading Room.
  • Laboratories.
  • Information services.
  • Teaching assistance.
  • Opportunities for collaboration with institutions and research centers both domestic and international.
We also work closely with the official body for collecting and processing departmental information, MODIP, which has created a platform at https://modip.uowm.gr/, through which all information regarding the quality of teaching, material infrastructure, administrative services, and teaching staff is shaped and gathered. We carry out the internal evaluation, which is a product of collaboration across the academic community, and a fruitful dialogue is followed among all stakeholders, under the guidance of OMEA and the PGP Committee. As a result, the PGP will be revised through consultation with all involved parties based on international developments in science and technology, responding to the requirements of both the labor market and society. We also ensure timely and accurate information for students and the general public. On the website of the Department https://ece.uowm.gr/ and the PGP https://mechatronics.uowm.gr, all necessary information is provided, relating to a variety of topics, such as:
  • The curriculum (course and course outline),
  • The obligations and rights of postgraduate students,
  • The Teaching Staff, Auxiliary Staff,
  • Study Guides and Regulations,
  • Research (Research projects and results, participation in conferences, publications, collaborations with other institutions),
  • Administrative services supporting postgraduate studies,
  • Student support services (e.g., counseling, career office, internships),
  • Contact details and communication with teaching and administrative staff.
The Department ensures that the Postgraduate Program is in continuous alignment with scientific and technological developments and meets the needs of the labor market and society, while safeguarding academic ethics and principles. It implements a quality culture in all academic and administrative activities, and constantly improves the provided services with transparency, accountability, and dedication to academic excellence.
